So I'm going to come over here, open my pages panel and double-click on A Master. In this document, we want pages down by the footers on almost every page so where should we put them? That's right, the master page. Move to the next frame in the asset and after "page" insert a space, and, using the text menu, select insert, select fields, and select previous frame page number.- When you're working on a book or a magazine or anything that has more than a few pages you owe it to your readers to add page numbers but it's a hassle to add page numbers to each and every page, right? Well, fortunately InDesign makes page numbers easy. Once the two frames are adjusted to your liking, go to the first frame of the asset and after "page" insert a space an then using the text tab, select insert, select fields and select next frame page number. Sometimes I have had the frames act strangely and even, on occasion, the fonts have gotten messed up.ĥ. At this point you may have to adjust the size of each of the two frames occupied by the asset to make sure that everything displays properly. Using the overflow triangle (you may have to select the box and select zoom to selection to see the overflow triangle), click on the triangle and drag it to the top of the next frame in the set of overflowing frames. Then shrink the text box so that only the first line (continued on page) is visible.Ĥ. To use the asset, in a document, drag it from the asset panel to the bottom of the first text frame in a set of overflowing text frames. On the assets panel click on panel preferences and select embed in current document to make sure the asset is available in future documents.ģ. When the text box is satisfactory, drag it to the asset subcategory you created in step 1. Then insert in the text box "Continued on page " followed by at least one line of space and then "Continued from Page ". Set the frame, border, font, and other characteristics. I know you need to have a document open for the next steps.Ģ. (I think you might have to have a document open to do this, but I am not sure). It appears you must create an asset in a subcategory, which means you must first go to the asset panel and create the subcategory. First, review the help page on creating assets. I know how to link text boxes across multiple pages, but I have not used linking in this way. I’m brand new to Publisher, so I was not even familiar with Assets, so this will be a good learning experience for me. I can create another one later if this description isn't enough to get you going I thought I had an example document showing this, but I can't find it. Then drag the second frame where it needs to go and position/pin it. Then when you need a new one, drag the Asset onto the source page and position/pin the first frame properly. If you need to do this often, you can create the two new text frames, pre-fill them with the "Continued." text and the Fields, and make an Asset from them. Then you need to link the two new frames together. You need to pin each in the appropriate place in the source and target text frames. You will need two additional text frames, one for the "Continued on" and one for the "Continued from". Your approach can work, but it takes a bit of work and practice. Am I missing something? Or am I wrong? Thanks again for helping with this. The problem I see is that I am going to have ot continue going back and moving the link if I add or edit text because it will move my "Continued on." link around. I have mine in a separate text box on top of the other box (which is how I did it before with ID). Your "continued on page." is inside the frame with the other text. Thanks for the welcome and the sample file. Or, is there some way to anchor the text within the text box so that the rest of the text will flow around it? Thanks again for helping with this.
